Multiple Teams · JV falls short in first game

The Pelham Panthers JV team lost to Oak Mountain 46-39 on Tuesday night at Oak Mountain High School. The Panthers led through out the first half of the game but gave up 16 points in the fourth quarter that led to the loss.

The Panthers led early with two three-pointers by Garrett Stonicher in the first half. The Panthers led until 2:01 of the second quarter when Oak Mountain scored on a layap to put the Eagles up 17-16. The Panthers trailed at the half 20-16.

In the second half, a Mason Goolsby layup cut the Eagles lead to 20-19, but Oak Mountain went on a 6-0 run to go up 26-19. The Panthers trimmed the Eagles again when Seth Torman three-pointer and a Tyler Wages free throw. The Panthers closed the gap to 32-30 with 4:55 in the fourth quarter.

Oak Mountain went on another 6-0 run to go up 38-30 with 2:51 left in the game. The Panthers cut the lead again on a Torman two free throws and a Daniel Lawson layup with :59 seconds left in the fourth quarter, but fell short in the end.

For the Panthers, Stonicher scored 10 points, Wages eight points, Torman seven points, Goolsby six points, and Lawson five points.
