Zach Allison hit the game winning buzzer beater for Pelham to go on and defeat Anniston 48-46 Thursday night in the Jungle. With the Panthers trailing by one point, Alex Reese took the free throw miss and handed it off to Allison with eight second left in the game. Allison took it and pushed it the ball down to the right wing of the three-point line and drained the winning shot and set off a frenzy in the Jungle.
The game went back and forth between the two teams. The Panthers took a 10-2 lead with 3:33 in the first quarter on a Reese layup. The Panthers led 15-8 after the first quarter.
In the second, Anniston went on a 5-0 run but with a J.T. Kepler layup from Allison assist put the Panthers up 19-16 with 1:58 left in the half. Anniston made a layup with :20 seconds left to give the Bulldogs a one-point lead at the half.
In the third quarter, with 3:30 left in the quarter a Mason Whitman 3-pointer gave the Panthers their biggest lead of the game at 35-23.
In the fourth quarter, Anniston took the lead early in the fourth quarter and two Allison free throws with 6:17 left in the game cut the Bulldogs lead to 38-37. With 3:53 left in the fourth quarter, Kepler hit two free throws to give Pelham a one-point lead.
With 3:05 left, Anniston hit two free throws but Allison made two free throws at 1:49 left in the game to cut the Bulldogs lead to one-point again. With :36 seconds left Anniston made a free throw to give the Bulldogs a three-point lead. With :11 seconds left in the game, Reese pulled down a big rebound and layup for the Anniston one-point lead before Allison hit the game winner at the buzzer.
Reese led the Panthers with 18 points. Kepler had 10 points, Whitman eight points, Allison seven points and John Michael Long three points for Pelham.
