In an important region match up the Pelham Panthers defeated the Stanhope Elmore Mustangs 35-25 at Ned Bearden Stadium. The Panthers opened the scoring with a Gabe Gamble 29 yard touchdown run to make the score 7-0 Panthers. After a three and out by the Panthers Defense, the Panthers scored on a QB Will Lankford 17 yard touchdown pass to WR Walker Lyles to make the score 14-0 for the Panthers. The Mustangs responded with touchdown pass, but the Mustangs missed the extra point to make the score 14-6. The Panthers Offense again responded quickly on a 31 yard touchdown run by Quarterback Will Lankford to make the score 21-6 for the Panthers going into halftime.
Opening the second half the Mustangs scored on a touchdown pass to bring the score to 21-13. Running Back Dylan Peterson responded with a 55 yard touchdown run to put the Panthers up 28-13. The Mustangs then took the ball and scored on their next possession but missed the extra point to make the score 28-19. After a stop by the Panthers defense Running Back Dylan Peterson scored again on a 6 yard run to make the score 35-19. The Mustangs scored again but the Panthers defense stopped the two point conversion attempt to keep the the Mustangs behind by two scores 35-25. The Mustangs took possession late in the fourth quarter with a chance to tie but Panthers Safety Jon White came up with a crucial interception which allowed the Panthers Offense to run out the clock and secure an important region victory. Offensively, the Panthers were lead again by the Running Back Duo of Dylan Peterson & Gabe Gamble. Peterson had 176 yards rushing on 20 attempts and Gamble had 110 yards rushing on 13 attempts. Quarterback Will Lankford added 46 yards rushing and 28 yards passing. Defensively, Safety Jon White added a Interception and six tackles and Cohen Lee added 5 tackles. Safety Fabian Calderon added 4 tackles and a pass break up. Kicker Salvador Jimenez added all five extra points.
The Panthers were scheduled to travel to Helena to take on their cross town rival on September 18th but the Huskies had to unfortunately forfeit the game due to Covid 19 concerns. With that forfeit win the Panthers move to 4-1 on the year and will host the Chelsea Hornets on September 25th in a non region contest at Ned Bearden Stadium.
