The Pelham Panthers Junior Varsity Team beat the Calera Eagles Tuesday Night in a come from behind win. The Eagles jumped out to a 12-0 lead on two early touchdowns in the first quarter, but that would be the Eagles only scorers of the night as the Panthers Defense tightened up and held the Eagles scoreless the rest of the game. The Panthers Offense responded with a Clayton Mains to Brock Isbell 54 yard touchdown pass to make the score 12-6 Eagles. The Panthers them scored late in the second quarter to tie the game at 12 on a Drake Hickox to Trey Corkill touchdown pass. After a scoreless third quarter the Panthers scored the game winning touchdown on a Clayton Mains to Trey Corkill touchdown pass. The Panthers Defense then held the Eagles on the last drive to preserve the victory. Defensively, the Panthers were led by a Cody Bethers interception, and a Kasean Griffin pass break up. While, Defensive End Will Felton added a QB sack which resulted in a fumble recovered by Defensive Lineman Brodie Martin. Defensive Tackle Chris Hernandez added a tackle for loss, while Linebacker Bishop Rellah added a sack. Overall, the Young Panthers displayed a “never give up attitude” and determination after falling behind early in their first junior varsity game of the year.
